Etsy fees explained, line by line

Etsy charges several different fees, and they show up as separate rows on your monthly statement. Here is what each one is, using the rates Etsy publishes for US shops. Rates differ by country and Etsy updates them from time to time, so always check the linked Etsy page for the current number.

Listing fee: $0.20

Each listing costs $0.20 to publish and renews every four months (or when an item sells and auto-renews). It appears as a listing fee row. Because it is a flat amount, it takes a bigger share of low-priced items. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy.

Transaction fee: 6.5%

Etsy charges 6.5% of the amount the buyer paid for the item, including shipping and gift wrap. It appears as a transaction fee row for each order. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy.

Payment processing fee: 3% + $0.25 (US)

When a buyer pays through Etsy Payments, a processing fee applies. For shops with a US bank account it is 3% + $0.25 per order, calculated on the order total including shipping and sales tax. Other countries have different rates. Source: Etsy Help: What are Payment Processing Fees for Selling on Etsy?.

Offsite Ads: 15% or 12% when an ad leads to a sale

If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee: 15% for shops under $10,000 in sales over the past 365 days, or 12% at or above that level. Etsy caps it at $100 per order. Source: Etsy Help: What are the Fees and Taxes for Selling on Etsy?.

Etsy Ads (on-site)

If you turn on Etsy Ads, you set a daily budget and pay per click. These charges appear as marketing rows on your statement, separate from sales fees. Source: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy.

Regulatory operating fee (some countries only)

Sellers in certain countries pay an extra percentage to cover the cost of local digital-services rules. Etsy lists which countries this applies to; US shops are not on the list. Source: Etsy Help: What is a Regulatory Operating Fee?.

Other fees you may see

Depending on your shop you may also see currency conversion, shipping labels, Share & Save credits or subscription (Etsy Plus) rows. Etsy describes each one in its Fees & Payments Policy.

A worked example

A US buyer pays $20.00 for an item plus $5.00 shipping, and Etsy collects $2.00 sales tax. Using the rates above: transaction fee 6.5% × $25.00 = $1.63; processing fee 3% × $27.00 + $0.25 = $1.06; plus the $0.20 listing fee. That is $2.89 in fees, or about 11.6% of the $25.00 sale, before any ads. The $2.00 of sales tax passes through to the tax authority and is not part of your earnings. Common questions

How much does Etsy take per sale?

For a typical US order without ads, the 6.5% transaction fee, the 3% + $0.25 processing fee and the $0.20 listing fee together usually come to roughly 10% to 13% of the order, more on low-priced items because of the fixed parts. Offsite Ads add 12% to 15% on orders they bring in.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. Etsy’s transaction fee applies to the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and the processing fee applies to the full order total.
