The fees Etsy takes from each order
For each sale Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee (the listing auto-renews when it sells), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge, and a payment processing fee that depends on where your bank account is: 3% + $0.25 for US accounts, charged on the order total including shipping and sales tax. Offsite Ads, currency conversion and regulatory fees
If a buyer clicked an Etsy ad on another site and bought within 30 days, Etsy adds an Offsite Ads fee of 15% (12% once your shop has made $10,000 in a 365-day period), capped at $100 USD per order (Etsy Help: How Etsy’s Offsite Ads Work). If you list in a currency other than your payment account’s, Etsy charges 2.5% to convert (Etsy Help: How to List Items in Your Preferred Currency). Sellers in some countries also pay a regulatory operating fee (Etsy Help: What is a Regulatory Operating Fee?).
Worked example
A US buyer pays $30.00 plus $6.00 shipping and Etsy collects $2.40 sales tax. Fees: $0.20 listing + $2.34 transaction (6.5% × $36.00) + $1.40 processing (3% × $38.40 + $0.25) = $3.94. With $9.00 of materials and packaging and a $5.50 label, profit is $17.56, a 48.8% margin. How the target-margin mode works
It searches for the lowest item price, to the cent, where profit ÷ (price + shipping) reaches your target, keeping your shipping charge and costs fixed and the sales tax at the same rate. Because percentage fees grow with the price, very high margins can be impossible; the calculator tells you when that happens.

Common questions
How much does Etsy take from a $30 sale?
For a US shop, a $30 item with $6 shipping and $2.40 sales tax pays about $3.94 in Etsy fees: $0.20 listing, $2.34 transaction and $1.40 processing. That is roughly 11% of the $36 you charged, before any Offsite Ads fee.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge, and the processing fee applies to the full order total including shipping and sales tax.
Is sales tax included in the Etsy transaction fee?
For US sellers, no: the transaction fee does not apply to sales tax. The payment processing fee is calculated on the total including sales tax, which is why the calculator asks for it.
Why does the processing fee change with my country?
Etsy sets the payment processing rate by the location of your bank account, from 3% + $0.25 in the US to 4% + £0.20 in the UK and higher elsewhere. The calculator uses Etsy’s published table for all 64 locations.
Is this calculator accurate for my shop?
It uses Etsy’s published rates as of October 2026 and rounds each fee to the cent, the same way your statement shows them. Your Etsy statement is the final word on what you were charged, and rates can change.
